Type Locality and Naming

The origin of the name is not specified, Central Kyzylkum. B.B. Sitdikov, 1970 (418, pp.49-51).

Synonym: Kalkanatin Suite, Калканатинская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Red-brown siltstone (aleurolites) and clays, near mountain elevations with layers of conglomerates from pebbles of Paleozoic rocks. Thickness up to 140m.

Lower contact

Unconformably overlies the Agitmin Fm

Upper contact

Unconformably overlain by Upper Pliocene

Regional extent

Central Kyzylkum, only in boreholes. Along the framing of Central Kyzylkum and to the south of them, in the deep Karakul and Romitan depressions, the proluvial deposits of the Kalkanatin-Neog Fm are interbedded and are facially replaced by alluvial-lacustrine formations of the Upper Pliocene Dengizkul-Neog Fm or Kassantau Fm. The formation has limited application.

According to A., the age of the suite is conditionally Lower to Middle Pliocene, possibly even Upper Pliocene. According to B.I. Pinhasov, it belongs to the Upper Pliocene.
